How We Work
Committee and Procedures
The Committee usually comes to your home to look at the repair issues you've identified, or to decide how much rent you should be paying. Once a repairs application has been made, parties can opt to choose mediation to resolve the problem instead of a Committee.
Hearings
If you choose to go to a hearing, the chairperson of the Committee will explain to you what will happen. It is not as formal as a hearing in court and you'll be treated fairly and politely and given the chance to present your case.
You will be notified in advance of the date and time of the inspection and the hearing, and the same Committee will carry out both. The inspection and the hearing will usually take place on the same day. Committee hearings are normally open to the public and held at a convenient venue.
A written decision, accompanied by a full statement of the reasons for the decision, is issued as soon as possible after the hearing or consideration of the case. Parties can claim the cost of reasonable travelling expenses in respect of attendance at a hearing, subject to the limits of the prhp expenses scheme.
A guidance note is available in different formats and languages for tenants and landlords in the How We Can Help area.
